First Detection of Gravitational Waves Amazes the World

The SXS (Simulating eXtreme Spacetimes) Project

13 March 2016: The 11 February 2016 announcement of the first detection of gravitational waves by members of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) amazed the world.  The 13 April OSSC meeting featured a detailed presentation by Professor Josh Smith, of LIGO and CSUF, on LIGO's discovery and the optical technologies employed.
