Sr. Mechanical Designer (Contract)
Nicholas J.
Contribute to new product development and support of legacy products for gas analytical instruments through design, product improvement and documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience designing components and subsystems for instruments, creating and releasing new drawings of parts and assemblies, and performing detailed documentation with minimal supervision based upon engineering principles and best practices.

Essential functions include:
•Support product development through research, analysis and design of components & systems.
•Create detailed CAD models of parts and assemblies.
•Develop and document design solutions to support new and current products.
•Create detailed fabrication drawings, source control drawings, certification drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, and enter them into PDM and MRP systems.
•Design and build prototype and validation hardware, test equipment, and production systems.

Qualifications:
•Proficient in completing detailed mechanical designs from scratch including material selection, DFM, DFA and DFT with limited supervision.
•Proficient at tolerance analysis, and geometrical dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T).
•Advanced SOLIDWORKS user with strong background in drafting, modeling, and designing.
•Proficient at creating clear engineering documentation; fabrication/assembly drawings, certification drawings, source control drawings, and design documentation.
•Expert in Documentation, Documentation Control and Change Management, ECO/ECR.
•Excellent communication skills, both in technical reporting and presentations

Desired Qualifications:
•Experience designing, developing, troubleshooting, testing & documenting complex mechanical, electrical, optical and software systems for highly regulated environments.
•Basic understanding of Heat Transfer, Thermal Design and structural analysis.
•Basic understanding of Certification for hazardous locations: CES, ATEX, IECX, etc.

Education:
•Associates Degree in Mechanical Design or similar with >10 years relevant experience.
•Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering with >5 years relevant experience.
Professional Characteristics:
•Must be able to work well within a diverse (culturally and geographically) team.

SpectraSensors is a leading manufacturer of laser-based gas analyzers for the natural gas, refinery and petrochemical processes, process gas analytics markets, and airborne water vapor measurements from commercial aircraft for the U.S. and International Weather Services. Typical applications include non-contact measurement of moisture, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and other trace gasses.
